When we publish on SoundBlend we are dependent on the approval of the other participants. That's fine with that, but when Kompozer closed his account or is inactive we were unable to launch the song. There should be a criterion that if the komposer has his account closed or if he does not respond within a certain time it means that he agrees (as a compulsory co-agreement). Another important point is that Kompoz does not ask its members for registration numbers of local associations. Therefore, if a member launches the music on a digital platform, on radio or television, the other members do not receive anything, as local associations are not notified. This number should not be mandatory, but optional and whoever reports it would have this number related to the song. I have over a hundred songs released on digital platforms, when I discovered this I told my association and it has only managed to include my name in fourteen so far.

The publishing agreement would probably need to be put in place upon upload as opposed to after closing the account. Maybe that's a way to address something like this.

The idea of accepting the contract when joining the project seems to me to be a great idea, however if there are 4 participants, 6, or any other number, it implies different percentages to be prorated. In Brazil we share as follows: . Copyrights receive Songwriting-Arrangement, Melodist and Lyricist equally. . Execution rights (I don't know how to say it in English, but it refers to the other professionals involved) are divided by the musicians, singer and other professionals who are involved.

isn't there some sort of mechanic to remove them from the list of collaborators? since you'll never know whether they agree or disagree, it seems logical to remove them from the collaboration.

comment.user.userName PLUS

EdsonCastro   commented 28 days ago

They can always be removed, but you will have to invite another instrumentalist. What if it was who sang it, or if it was who did Songwriting-Arrangement? It will be more difficult to resolve. The rule should be if the account is closed or inactive the authorization is considered to be accepted.

See now theres a variable that noone plans for ... part of being in the collaboration is accepting the fact that a contributor may or maynot cooperate with an agreement... We all know that going into this ..Dont we..?.. well i do..) Maybe an agreement submission ahead of the finished collab like that other post says ..may be the answer ..meanwhile if someone pushes a collab with my work and not my agreement thats a problem.. Wouldnt you agree if it was you?

comment.user.userName PLUS

njd3   commented 28 days ago

for the most part yes, it would bother me. on the other hand I am usually satisfied with the ideas I post before I decide to post them. if I am not in love with the collaboration as a whole, that is usually a matter of taste and I don't make waves unless I have issues with what may have been done with my addition(s). obviously, I am speaking as a contributor rather than an originator.....

Yea agree)

I think that anyone can refuse to accept, but the lack of an answer should be considered a yes (after a certain waiting period). I understand what you say, but a job cannot be sacrificed because someone no longer wants to participate in the game. We have friends who passed away and left many collaborations. If there is such a rule and there is a registration number with which the member is associated, the family can receive possible royates.

then on the other hand... some people just dont think its important or they may not want to answer for whatever reason... i think an unanswered contract implies a no..no permission granted ... then you as the creator ...are free to find a replacement... that seems fair to me..imo i can give an example... for example.. privacy. maybe for whatever reason they( the contributor) wants anonymity and they dont want their contribution to be sold.. imo its up to the creator to "hold the deal together" if they intend on releasing am i wrong or do you agree?

comment.user.userName PLUS

njd3   commented 28 days ago

i kind of feel like an unanswered request implies an "i don't care", making me wonder why they recorded in the first place. if you don't want published, don't contribute. record all you want, but don't post it. otherwise, accept that something may get published at some point.

comment.user.userName

smg179   commented 28 days ago

and an i dont care imo means that its only for entertainment purposes only...which means the terms of service is engaged which in turn spells it out as a "must be agreed to" ...remember this site is an Open Music Agreement https://www.kompoz.com/music/i/terms am i right? imo the creator holds all responsibilities to take the collab to where they want it and if they accept from someone who isnt into the collab ..or doesnt respond... then they ( the creator) should find another collaborator imo just like a realestate agent..their job is to "hold the deal together" what if i offer you 10%and you want 50% say you get aggravated and say no and ignore me... your done.. ..do you think i have the right to sell it anyways with your contributions?? if i did wouldnt you be infuriated?

I know the issue is controversial, but we need to discuss it until there is a majority consensus. We will of course never reach unanimity.

in digital distributors, web pages, payment methods, etc. They always rule in favor of a claim from a third party, either by freezing the accounts, or by paying whoever makes the claim. At least that is what I am currently reading in the fine print of the terms and conditions of the services, with which: for the moment that a song does not transcend, there is no problem. But what if it becomes a hit ?! (we should be more careful)... I agree with a pre-agreement, Greetings Nelson !!

Well, From the discussions about Compoz 3.0 I have learned that there will be no more link to Soundblend under Compoz 3.0. So Soundblend is finally dead. ( Soundblend has always been the graveyard of all our songs ;) I know the mentioned problems from my own experience. You want to publish a song on Soundblend... But one of the musicians is no longer active. or... One of the musicians suddenly doesn't agree with the pre-set conditions anymore. Or, or, or, or... I have often been annoyed about many things concerning the releases. I had to find out that other kompozers offered my songs for sale on various platforms...without me being informed about it... I realize: Kompoz does not offer any real solution for the publishing business. ( The old "contracts" about Soundblend were only "eyewash" anyway. Legally seen completely useless.

so people are probably taking my drums and selling them on some other platform without telling me. good thing i'm not a really good drummer or anything :)

interesting Frank ... what do you use to publish your work? and others? it would be interesting to know what options people are using.

comment.user.userName PLUS

LazyFrank   commented 27 days ago

I don't really publish anything anymore. In my opinion, neither Kompoz/ Soundblend nor any other platform offers a legally safe possibility for the legally valid publication of hobby musicians. I had hoped that Kompoz 3.0 would give us a really legal solution...but it doesn't look like that anymore. But I'm also just a garage musician and I do all this mainly for the fun of it ;)

comment.user.userName PLUS

Redfish   commented 27 days ago

yes me too Frank ... do you put your songs on facebook or on your own website or something?

comment.user.userName PLUS

Redfish   commented 27 days ago

for me ... what I would like to do ... collect all the collabs Ive worked on, assembled in one place that I can share with friends and family [they dont use soundblend or dedicated muso stuff] ... that's all .... making money out of it is unrealistic [imo] ..... but as an expression of my creativity and those I have worked with .... definitely

comment.user.userName PLUS

offthewall   commented 27 days ago

The best way (IMO) to do that is to set up a free web page somewhere and copy the 'inline player' links from your projects ..... like this: http://www.fraserology.com/page24.html then you need only send them the page link.

After 7 years on here I decided to share some of my favorite (self-owned and started) songs with friends and set up paulmunsmusic.com using easy WIX.com. I give credit to the one other on the song, usually bass. I have a relative in MN who teaches HS music and I wanted to give him easy access to my songs as a reference. I have earned $3.27 if I remember correctly so far from SoundBlend (minus the 20% commission?) so as a retired person I never realistically expected even that from here. The dilemma of charging for songs from my website was a non-issue since it would snowball into a business checking account which is immediately notified to the city so they can charge a business license costing extra hundreds and more website charges as well. All my website's songs are free to download. I also know about Soundflower, now succeeded by Blackhole app, I use it occasionally to download anything I hear on the Internet for reference as a song's starting point. I use it to reference the sound of an organ or small riff section and integrate it into my song in a way that has no relation to the downloaded. I use it responsibly otherwise it is theft. I agree with James that the cleanest way to setup a reference to a song is via a link, but those links often change over time and can be lost. When Kompoz 3.0 comes online, will the links be changed? Nice job BTW on the links page, James!

offthewall   commented 26 days ago

Yes. At some stage I realised that, for Kompoz projects, this is by far the easiest way to display them. No online storage needed as the player streams direct from the K page. The only possible drawback is that the player size is fixed and takes up quite a bit of screen space, especially in multiples.

It is really complicated, we need to find a solution. I also never received 0.01 cent for any song on or outside kompoz. I suggested in another post that one way to support us would be to create individual pages on Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and other social networks. Everyone interested in being supported would become followers of each other, so we would form individual pages with 20,000, 30,000 or more followers. This would give the necessary support for the page to be relevant and receive external support in addition to the benefits offered to large accounts. I have more than 4,000 followers on Instagram (@edsoncastro_compositor), but that is still not enough.

Yes , great idea , we call ourselves a " family " here on Kompoz , maybe we could support each other OUTSIDE of Kompoz also , i am sure your channel Pablo , would gain more attention with 40,000 followers than 4,000 .

We are independent musicians. Until we assume our identity, unless we sign for some record label, we will continue to sleep without anything happening. This requires self-management.

I will put in my 2cents worth ..... Maybe there should be , in your profile, among your name, region, talent, gizmos you own and your favorite bands ... just a place where it mentions "just for hobby" or " business minded" ... So when you look for a song to collab and it says Business but you only feel like Hobby, just don't collab !!! Vice versa ! Furthermore, there are a LOT of passersby and one hit wonders and people looking for voxes or riffs to make the satanic "beats" they need to change and make it their own ... these people should not be here! Yet they contributed slightly and are gone when it's time for Business!!! (and they took a few tracks of some of us for their loops and schlingamadings they call "beats") Only collab with people who pay Kompoz with a membership !!! That'd be a way ! If there was a space (among what I have enumerated above) where you could also add like : SOCAN member # 123456 ... wouldn't it mean I am a registered artist and if you wish to work with me, if it's any good, we will market the song ! If the owner of the song publishes it and so forth, we have all the info needed to add it in our own artist's association/affiliation/copyright thingie and register it like the creator stated!! I will help anyone out if I like the song and there is something at the end (whatever it is : hobby/business) If I create a song and people like it, come and help it out ! But state the facts and direction at the start !!! That means "beware of the creators doing everything and just looking for vocals or lyrics" ... Sharks !
