I am sorry to report that we have not made much progress on Kompoz 3.0 during the last 6 months. I can blame it on COVID-19, but that would only be a small part of the story. Truthfully, I've just been preoccupied with other ventures. I started a non-profit business to honor a very close friend who I lost last May, and I also started a deep-dive into making telescopes (so random). During that time, though, I've been thinking a lot about Kompoz 3, and I am ready to get back to work. But I've decided to pivot on the direction. Initially I was working towards a complete re-write of the Kompoz platform -- from the database, to the middleware, all the way up to the user-interface. I was pretty close to completing that work but then hit a wall. The migration of existing projects to the new platform was turning out to be extremely difficult and fraught with bugs. Some data elements simply would not translate, and I think that would have lead to member frustration. So, I'm taking a more conservative approach. I've decided to keep the underlying database, and I'll focus on a new middleware and front-end. Much of what I have already demo'd (via the videos in this gallery) will still apply (new audio player, etc). I just means this will take a bit longer than expected. I'll post more regarding the timeline as I get into it. I hope everyone is well, safe, and happy. I am hopeful that 2021 will be a good year. I see it as the year to rebuild -- Kompoz, ourselves, this government (my country, specifically), and to end this pandemic.

That is a most sensible strategy sir. Ever thought of running for office? Sense seems to be in short supply in parts of the world today. Let's all hope that 2021 fulfils your prophecy.....

thanks for the update Raf, it sounds like a mammoth task and i'm guessing you need flexibilty to pursue your other passions. I'd support a completely new separate website..starting from scratch if that means it makes it easier to carry out the complete re-write that you originally envisioned..i don't know how others here feel about that?

Got a 3D printer? You can build your own "Kompoz" telescope. I recently published an Instructables post and a Medium article about my design. https://www.instructables.com/3D-printed-Newtonian-Reflector-Telescope/ https://medium.com/swlh/i-designed-and-3d-printed-a-newtonian-reflector-telescope-the-views-are-amazing-2b41ed42bf58

you are making me feel like such an underachiever! lol...I was actually thinking about getting a 3d printer -do you have a recommendation?

There are so many great 3D printers on the market, spanning price ranges from under $200 USD to well over $5,000 USD. It all depends on what you want to print/accomplish. I started with an inexpensive Creality CR-10, but quickly decided I wanted a few additional pro-ish features, such an enclosure (for printing ABS), dual extruders, etc. So I bought a FlashForge Creator Max, and fell in love with the FlashForge brand (reliable and and great support). The Creator Max was a fine printer (similar to their popular Creator Pro), but I then decided I wanted a larger print volume, the ability to print carbon fiber, and a removable print bed. Also, the dual extruder solution provided by the Creator Max was really a gimmick. The extruders are not independent, so the 2nd extruder does not add much value, other than to quickly switch filaments. I then sold that and jumped in big with a FlashForge Creator 3. Expensive, but it is amazing. I highly recommend FlashForge as a brand. They have many models to choose from. Their Adventurer is a popular starter model.

I would like a telescope that allows me to see heavenly bodies. :-) Does your telescope have an x-ray mode? Actually, very cool, it never even occurred to me that you could 3 D print a telescope. What about a guitar? Anyway, Kompoz is very good as is. No rush.
