Hi, New to the site. Looks really interesting and I was getting ready to dive in except I noticed that the "Starter" plan only lets you upload mp3s. I'd like to try out the site before paying for a subscription, but mp3s suck and I can't believe anyone here who produces decent quality music would even accept them in the first place. Thoughts? Suggestions?

Just get started and see how you get on ... if a push comes to a shove - you can always send a wav file by file transfer Welcome to Kompoz

I remember a post recently someone had some gift cards for a free months to hand out... Ill try and find the post and link to it, maybe you can get your hands on one to try it out for a month. As someome whos new my self, its well worth it. Met a lot of great people and talented musicians along the way, made some great music and had a lot of fun doing it. If you can't get .your hands on a gift card I mean... A membership is only $5 a month. That's like a couple cups of coffee lol And if you don't like it, cancel.

What the others said. I just had a quick listen to some of your SC songs and got to say you could feel right at home here. There are quite a number of us who are into the folk/singer-songwriter style. If you try it out using MP3's for starters, if things go well you can always share WAV files thru dropbox or google-drive, or whatever. But ..... when you do try it out I think you will find the $50/year to be a very wise investment. I'll watch out for you and any questions just drop me a message.

Heya Mark, welcome to Kompoz from another southcoaster (don't let my profile fool ya - I'm probably within 20 minutes of you). As the other's said, it is the kinda place that grows on you. You can also opt to pay monthly so pay for one month as Plus and see what you get and decide after that. Looks like you may have already made that choice - but if you went all in, and don't like it, you can cancel and be refunded.

Bandwidth is expensive and this is not a major corporation site. MP3 really isn't the end of the world unless, wait... Lars Ulrich is that you?

Thanks all.. Still trying to figure out how the site works.. And I have a couple comments and questions.. I hit 'Collaborations' and the default is "Recommended" (because of my endorsements), but most of those are 4+ years old. So on to "Just Started" but there's no way to filter for endorsements or even genre. Somehow I stumbled on this.. https://www.kompoz.com/music/collaboration/599732 I was checking it out and thinking about submitting a track. Luckily I clicked on the originator and found that their account is closed. What happens in cases like that? What is a common time frame for these things? 1+ years seems like a long time. How do I know if the project is done ..or if it's fizzled out and the originator gave up on it? Any suggestions about where to start? I did get a "request" for a collaboration. I don't know that it's right for me. I don't mind not having a lead sheet, but for instance laying down a piano track with the occasional fill or with good voice-leading before I've heard how the lead vocal sits is a recipe for musical mush, yet a lot of folks seem to be laying down instruments without a vocal guide track. I'm also a singer. People seem to post lyrics with no melody and not even a road map or markers to suggest where sections go. Am I just hunting in the wrong places? Thanks

Collaborations -> Browse Channels -> Filter for Instrument etc., sorting possible My advice would be, after being on here for just a couple of months, is to manage your expectations. Most people here aren't professionals, there are a lot of projects which are "here is something I made, please make something better from it". Rarely people actually know what they want added to their songs. So, just browse, look for something that inspires you, don't expect too much. But you might get lucky.

Mark, You need to spend a lot of time at the beginning just browsing, listening to a lot of different projects. Then I would say start small - just contribute something pretty simple to a project at first and see how it goes. A lot of times you can just submit a sample - like a chorus or a line or two and ask the project owner if they like it and want you to continue in that direction. It?s a very free form environment so different people work in different ways.

re. expectations - It really depends on what your motivation is this might be helpful https://www.kompoz.com/music/group/449367/a/1078577

Still checking out things and haven't pulled the trigger on anything. A few more questions.. Is there an FAQ somewhere? I thought I saw something once but I can't find it now. I have a few questions regarding copyright declarations. What's the difference between "Equally" and "Based on a split sheet?" Is it ok if I start out with a few of my own songs in need of filling out, or do folks tend to prefer seeing newbies participate on other projects?

So I just put one out there.. For some reason it has the wrong file as the featured track.. I want the "Engineering-Mastering Track to be the lead track, but for some reason, it put up the "San drums and Bass/"Engineering-Scratch Bedtrack" as the lead track. How do I change that?

Find the track you want to feature, click the manage track drop down and select Feature Track

good idea to put up one of your songs as a new collaboration ..... put what you want doing and expectations and infor in the 'project brief' You will get the hang of it much easier once you have tried it Split sheet - project creator allocates percentages to contributors (doesnt have to be an even split) Equal contribution - as it suggests
