Not sure if you have been following the Mixing With Depth series from CLA that I posted one and a half weeks ago but here's the final installment. Unsurprisingly, he has a new plugin, "EPIC", out today which allows you to copy his go-to effects chain. You can also use the free version "Echosphere" that I posted yesterday, for some of these effects. EPIC is on offer today only for 30USD https://www.waves.com/plugins/cla-epic Weather or not you want to get these plugins, I still think it's worth watching the video series as a free insight into a very successful mixing engineer's workflow. What I like about CLA is that he has a reason for every mixing decision he makes and he explains things from a technical point of view rather than referring to "magic".

Hurry up and get the free vocal effects plugin from Waves! It's made in collaboration with CLA (Chris Lord-Alge): https://www.waves.com/plugins/cla-echosphere Here's a sample from a mix I did using it: https://www.kompoz.com/music/collaboration/1071125/file/1074330

I smell a new CLA plugin series in the works but this series is interesting nevertheless! This relates a bit to the template video below as he kind of uses these effects on a standard setting and just adds the amount of effect that a song calls for.

Do you guys/gals use templates when mixing? What are the pros/cons of using templates and what's in your templates? This video by Produce Like A Pro is really funny for me as a Faroese person because the song Aimee, featured in this video, is by the Faroese artist Lena Anderssen. It was recorded and produced by the legendary Geoff Emerick (probably his last production before his death) and her partner Niclas Johannesen. Marc Daniel Nelson talks about his mixing template in this video.

Hi all, We're now over 50 members in the group so I thought I'd try to get some expert advice on a production that I'm working on! This is a production that I'm making for someone outside of kompoz so I've omitted the vocals which will be made by the artist. I'm quite happy with the general structure and sound of the song but there are some things which I'm not 100% on: - Intro. It it strong enough? The keyboard is referencing the bridge part later in the song; which I thought would be a nice red line. - Is the transition from the chorus to the bridge coherent enough? Should I extend those distorted rhythm guitars from the chorus into the bridge? - Is the bridge part coherent enough? Maybe I should add something to bring it together? - Is the break strong enough? Should I strengthen the break perhaps by making the bass drop more obvious? - How do you like the sound of the synth lead? Any constructive criticism and ideas are very welcome! :) Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

The winner of this month's Production of the Month is: HALLOWEEN 2020 (https://www.kompoz.com/music/collaboration/1052278/file/1059933 ) By: WillaWay Studio Nigel Robinson Ellen Kussy JeanLui was invited, as one of the previous winners of Production of the Month, to act as a judge of the top three nominations. He gave this thoughtful explanation for his decision: The reason is the following: As the Burnt Will song there are hundreds of hundreds, it sounds very good in everything, composition, mix, voice, etc, BUT, the Halloween 2020 song is a simple composition, very well done and that repeats all the content, all the structure but with the genius that each piece has a different contrast. Curious no? A song that repeats the harmony but NEVER sounds the same, it does not become repetitive, it does not tire, it almost always repeats the same harmony but each time includes new contrast. She is very good in composition, choice of instruments, overall sound. This is an authentic and legitimate orchestral composition and its creator has known how to play with contrast very well. I like the composition, I like the choice of instruments and I like the contrast of the creator, as simple as it is original.

Hi all, I wanted to start a production or producer of the month to encourage producers to share their work and to inspire other producers' creativity. Here's how it works: 1. You share the link to an original kompoz collaboration in the comment to the poll and give a *reason for why you think this production should win. (https://www.kompoz.com/music/group/producers/poll/1063830 ) 2. I add it as an option to the poll. 3. Votes are cast. 4. A jury selects a winner from the top 3 collaborations. All top 3 collaborations will be considered in case of a tie. The poll ends at the end of any given month at 10PM(CEST). Submissions and voting remain open until the end of this date and time. Nominations outside kompoz.com and nominations without description and covers will not be considered. Every month a fresh poll and message is made and the circle starts again. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- *It's hard to say what constitutes a good production but here are some pointers: - Does it sound professional? - Are the instruments well played? - Does the structure of the song make sense for what it wants to convey and for the genre? - Are there built up's between the sections? - Have there been made some "ear catchers" to keep the listener interested throughout the song? This could be delays on specific words/sections, instrument markings etc.

I've been wanting to create a Roxette style song ever since the passing of Roxette's Marie Fredriksson late last year. What are the main components in a Roxette production? What approach would you take to create a Roxette sounding song?

Hi all, It'll soon be time to vote for next month's production of the month. But before the nomination and voting starts I'd like to get your opinions on how the voting and nomination should be made. Feel free to add options in the comment to this poll: https://www.kompoz.com/music/group/producers/poll/1061315

PRODUCTION OF THE MONTH:

Halloween 2020

ABOUT THE GROUP:

This is a group for people interested in production. Today's producers have many different tasks including: arranging, recording, performing, mixing etc.

From my time on here kompoz I've come to think that the role of producers has been very much neglected or overlooked.
This often results in that songs:

  • Never get off the ground because users don't know how to make their idea to a full song.
  • End up having some low quality MIDI instrument parts without any dynamics.
  • Become a mess of incoherent user submitted tracks which lack a vision of what is good for the song.
  • Are poorly mixed/mastered and therefore do not give those involved the gratification of a good product.

A good producer should be able to address these issues to get a song from initial idea to finished product.

Feel free to use this group to share tips and ideas, ask questions and get feedback on your productions!
