Warren Huart on Youtube Channel - ProduceLikeAPro https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCpyUGZeMUtOvt57UACw3H2g has lots of great content (free) including some longer format (2 hr) free courses. Worth a look. His web site sells longer courses (I haven't tried any of those)
Warren is great, I will try the 2-hour course.
I agree with PeteConz...Warren has an incredible channel. I also look for the Mastercourses on youtube. Every now and then people like Chris Lord Algae and his brother Tom will do them. I have seen Andrew Scheps do one and even some less prominent mix engineers.
Another great tool that I have used is the Slate All Access Pass. Its $10/month and includes some really nice plugins as well as a bunch of mixing tutorials. you can get there at www.slatedigital.com
If you make it easy for people they will. I would edit your question with a link to a mix you think is solid. Some of the enjoyment of this website is giving back and many do it, not just by dropping great tracks on unsuspecting collabs, but also by mixing and mastering as well. There's not a lot of them out there anymore for whatever reason, but I found that entering mix competitions online was a huge tool to boost your mix game. You work on the same tracks as everyone else and that helps you evaluate your own work. Hearing a better mix is both humbling and inspiring.
Oh, how true.
I don't even mind if I don't get an acknowledgement that I made a contribution.
I call it stealth collaboration...:)
In addition to the link thingy, I'd suggest that the files be uploaded here, on Kompoz, as opposed to remotely linked. That way anyone with security concerns will not feel insecure about clicking on the link.
Thanks for the reply. The next time I have a song ready I will bring it here for review. Were the Mix competitions on this site or other places on the web?
We don't really do competitions here, friend. At least not officially, I don't think.
Kompoz is a place to find people to help you make your song. Musicians, engineers, etc. Mostly amateur, but not always.
"If you're not first you're last"........sorry, couldn't resist:)
Thanks for piping in, Will.
They were around the web. There's not much going on anymore I don't think, but then I haven't checked in a while. Purmix, Indaba, two I got banned from...etc. Another option is to mix a song from here for fun and submit it to the group, or don't. You can download the complete seps from great songs usually until they are marked finished. Mix them up and see how you stand against what they have. If your better, submit it.
I've actually learned quite a bit attempting to mix here on Kompoz. Folks typically give very constructive feedback and are usually more than glad to share knowledge they may have acquired.
I never won those monitors...sigh. Always felt like it was somebody's grandkid winning. But the Indaba feedback was awesome and there was a bit of a mixer community that developed after a while of seeing the same people time after time. I dug it. I was even part of a mixer group of about 20 that was from there. We all cut each other's throats eventually but there was a good year of friendship in there. There's a group for everybody somewhere.
I feel the same about any competition I've ever entered ha!
Warren just finished a mix contest with metal band. Said he's starting another in a week or so. Diff genre I think.
Great tracks, not flawless. (I think it's a test).
Had 6000 submissions, so no individual feedback unfortunately. Did short critique on top 10.
