 Gringo's Hideaway

I can taste the salt on my lips
Carried on the ocean breeze
While I'm not a prisoner here
I'm not exactly free

Some would call this paradise
Others might call it hell
Maybe both maybe neither
Just a different kind of cell

In every waterfront cantina
Like pirates of yesterday
Everyone has a story to tell
In this gringo's hideaway

I hear the sounds of drinking
Mariachi music fills the air
I'm alone with a bottle of rum
And no desire to go downstairs

Where dark haired senoritas
With smiles never  reaching their eyes
All so young and beautiful
Selling softly whispered lies

In every waterfront cantina
Like pirates of yesterday
Everyone has a story to tell
In this gringo's hideaway

Life is cheap and violence reigns
When men have nothing left to lose
We carry on like we're free
And turn a blind eye towards the truth

God doesn't live in Mexico
I've heard the troubadors say
So  the devil dances beside you
Here in the gringo's hideaway

In every waterfront cantina
Like pirates of yesterday
Everyone has a story to tell
In this gringo's hideaway

Every story is different
Every story is just the same
We're all hiding from our past
In this gringo's hideaway
