This started off as a spoken work production for a 'poetry to music' project.
Ghostly Echoes
Leaves swaying in the breeze, past midnight in the cemetery
Mist rising from the sod, so freshly trodden down.
A gate swinging on its hinge, keeps time with night?s sweet melancholy
Flowers freshly full of love, lie dying on the frosted ground.
The mist shifting, turning, winding,
Moves as if by will unknown
Descending, tendrils snaking outward
Reaching, life nor death within.
Walls safe of graveyard bordered
Leaving soil consecrated
Beyond the crosses, in the orchard
Under oak tree, unmarked grave.
Rising, new onto this day
Swaddled in a shroud of grey
I killed myself last night
And this is just a dream of life that will not go away.
Colours faded, flowers wilting
Grey sky clouding my horizons.
Sun seems smaller, its rays tepid
Noises muted, passions censored.
God is absent, birds not singing
Ghostly echoes, faintly ringing.
People far off, hardly seeing
Half transparent, look right through them.
Love distorted, see its hate face
Peace unknown, just war in this place
Absence noted of all music
A thing not missed until we lose it.
Tears will not come, eyes will not close
Smells no longer smelt with this nose.
Mouth wide open, scream will not come
Senses muted, cut out of from.
Ghost, spirit, apparition
Falseness of being, abomination.
Wraith, spectre, an illusion
Trick of the light, hallucination.
I killed myself last night
And this is just a dream of life that will not go away.
