Just came back from a road trip out west.
One of the highlights of the trip was staying in Room #8 of the Joshua Tree Inn. This is the room that Gram Parsons OD'd in back in 1973. The Inn has set up a shrine to Gram outside the room and the room itself is filled with memorabilia. It is a beautiful hacienda style motel inn.
I wrote this song for Gram and the Inn while staying there on 10/15/19.
Joshua Tree Inn

Verse 1:
Seeking refuge in the Joshua Trees
That reach out to heaven where spirits are free
You felt too much you burned too bright
Three chords and the truth your guiding light
Chorus:
Is your ghost here waiting or were you set free?
From the demons that stole you, Whiskey and Morphine
Sing me a sad song from Room Number Eight
In the land of the living, It?s never too late
Verse 2:
Your songs live on. Your spirit is here
The stars in the desert sky wish you were near
When memories live on you never really die
Sing me a sad song. Bring tears to my eyes.
Chorus
Instrumental Verse
Chorus
Verse 3:
You?re safe at home here. The songs will never die.
In California under the desert sky
There?s a place of beauty called Joshua Tree
The Inn?s preserving your memory
Yes, the Inn?s preserving your memory
